Thing 9
I haved mixed feelings about Youtube. I do like it because I can always find something in the subject area that I am looking. However, I think there are a lot of inappropriate things on Youtube that are not good for school. We are able to use it in the classroom and it is a great resource, but I never allow my students to go on it by themselves. I also did learn my lesson to NOT search for things in front of the class because you can't be sure what will pop up! I hope that the school continues to allow us to use the website but I do think it needs to be monitored. There are tons and tons of videos that are awesome for teaching!

I agree that it can be a real potential distraction. I don't know that I can trust my students to use it appropriately on their own. I think it needs to be something that we arrange and manage for our students.

I agree with both you and Wendy that it's hard to trust our students to use the site appropriatly. Also, even when my own kids are looking at their kid-type, kid-friendly videos, I noticed that when the video ends and the screen pops up that has additional movies they may want to view....there are some VERY inappropriate little pictures that come up for those videos!!! Given that they are following a video that I feel my kids could watch, I was floored and happy that I was standing around and saw the options that came up after because they were NOT APPROPRIATE!!! Now I'm always lingering around the computer or watching what they're watching. It's scary. In a classroom there are TOO MANY students for us to be standing behind every screen at once!
